Working as an IT professional, I've come to learn that there are certain things you just do not scrimp upon; especially when it comes to the webhosting you choose for your business.

Early on in my career, I decided we would be best served by simply using some sort of virtual web hosting solution. And to be honest, it actually worked for a while. What I had not expected, however was that our company's online presence was going to grow at the rate it did.

Well, that inevitable day came and when I was called in the middle of the night with news of our site's complete outage, I knew I needed a new solution.

Given that we are located just out side Atlanta, colocation options were high on my list of potential choices. I knew from first hand experiences there were a ton of good facilities in the greater Atlanta, GA area, and with a little diligence I could find one that would offer our business all that we would need in order to never have to deal with a completely non-operable website ever again.

Making the choice to go with colocation webhosting was probably the best decision I've made to date in my working career. Boy am I glad I did.
Having lived in San Diego proper no less than three times during my adult life, I have a pretty good command on the county, and where most everything is located. Recently, I was presented with the opportunity to move back to the area, and as such, I started looking for a place to live.

Every time I've lived down that way, I truly wanted to live north of San Diego, preferably along the coast. Live work space in Carlsbad is an increasingly attractive buy right now, so I decided to focus my search along that stretch of Highway 5.

Clearly the U.S. economy is still in bad shape. Even though, I was completely unready for the great Carlsbad real estate deals that exist right now. Even after all of my years living in Mission Valley, Mission Beach, even Bankers Hill and the downtown Gaslamp District, I am now seriously considering making the move to the Carlsbad area a permanent one.

There are so many wonderful things to see and do in that stretch of Southern California. And combine this with the fact that I could lock in on the deal of the century on a home that would likely be my last? Hardly something to pass up at this point in my life.

We all have different online profiles that we use for both personal and professional use. If you’re in the process of looking for a job then you’ll want to make sure that you’ve cleaned up these online profiles in case potential employers check them out. You’d be surprised how many employers dismiss great employees before they get to know them because they don’t like what they see in an online profile.

You really want to keep the personal information down to a minimum on your online profiles when you’re looking for a job because even information that seems harmless can come back to bite you. For example, you might post a status update that you’re excited because you were just able to sell scrap gold to a few local pawn shops for some extra cash. There’s nothing wrong with selling your gold (in fact, it’s a great way to make money while you’re looking for a job) but the status update about it can make you seem desperate for cash. This may turn off employers even though it has nothing to do with them and shouldn’t be an issue.

It’s just better to be safe than sorry right now when it comes to your online profile. The ratio of job hunters to employers is highly in favor of employers right now so they can afford to be picky. Little things about you that shouldn’t affect your employment could be a reason not to hire you today. It’s still fine to have personal profiles but make sure that they aren’t the profiles that can be found by the people who you want to give you a job.

Finding the Write Mix in a Writer

  • Apr. 24th, 2009 at 7:07 AM

A skill that I am having trouble finding in writers is the ability to write SEO content. SEO is short for search engine optimization. With SEO optimization, content is specially designed to attract the attention of Google and other search engines to try and get the website listed at the top of the page.

The problem that I run into is that I either find writer that are talented in writing quality content, or I find those that are clearly SEO oriented. Finding writers that are a complete SEO package is becoming a hard find.

Sometimes, I have to settle for finding a great writer and then sending the content through to an SEO writer to have them make adjustments. Once in a while, my writers will pick up on some of the techniques and improve their writing for my needs. Other times, I have to decide which I want more, quality content, or top rankings.

Personally, I would rather use the two writer system because I don’t want my users to come to the site, take one look at the content, and then leave because it doesn’t make sense. I would rather spend the extra time and money to get the job done right.

New life insurance trends

  • Mar. 23rd, 2009 at 12:49 PM

When we consider today’s insurance market, there are some interesting trends coming to the forefront. With all of the insurance companies out there today, it is becoming a well known fact that people need this type of coverage. It can make a lot of sense, especially for folks who have a lot of money and seek extra financial stability for their families. Some people do not just want to go for the first cheap life insurance policy that they see, though.

Because of this, a new and emerging trend in this market comes from people borrowing money to get a big life insurance policy. These loans make sense on many levels, as they are financially sound and stable. Many of the best life insurance policies have considerations held within them that allow people to make money in addition to having the life insurance coverage. For this reason, many folks seek out the premium finance options when they need to get this sort of policy. Because of the low, steady interest rates associated with these loans, it can make a great deal of sense to take one in order to invest in a lucrative life insurance plan that covers the future.

Birthday Tattoo

  • Mar. 17th, 2009 at 12:05 PM

For my twentieth birthday I decided to get one of the Angel Tattoos I found at my local tattoo parlor. They had a bunch of standard type tattoo flash work to choose from, but I wanted something that showed a unique flavor. I didn’t want to settle for just tattoo so I browsed the Internet pretty extensively. I found some butterfly tattoos that looked neat, but nothing really piqued my interest. I’d been planning to get a tattoo for sometime, and decided that I needed to find something by my twentieth birthday.

I’m not sure if the tattoo was one I just happened to skip over when I was walking the shop, but I could have sworn I hadn’t seen it on the wall. I was pretty happy with the turnout, especially after asking the tattoo artist to give it a bit of uniqueness. He used a different shade of hair, and made some very unique wings. It ended up looking quite a bit more unique than the one on they had posted on the wall. I’m very pleased with how it came out. I can’t wait to show every one of my friends that didn’t think I’d do it!!

The Wrong Kind of Shopping Online

  • Feb. 24th, 2009 at 12:22 PM

My first husband advertised himself on an internet site.  Obviously, this is why he is no longer my husband.  He had to travel a lot for his television job, so he was in a lot of hotel rooms alone…or not.  He called himself “TV Traveler” on the site.  Cute, huh?

It was pretty incredible, actually.  My sister poked around on his computer and found an actual spreadsheet of women he’d garnered from one coast to the other in his travels.  He had recorded their ages, their hair color and even their “preferences,” if you know what I mean.  Talk about having a woman in every port!  I think if it was possible, he would have gone onto a site and plopped his choice for the evening into an online shopping cart.

Since then, I’ve heard even on the news that this is a growing problem in households in America.

Not only this, but “the oldest profession” has branched out to the internet—many have only a thinly disguised online store.  I’ve never visited such a site, and I’ve never heard, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you could use a credit card to pay for the evening…so my ex-husband’s dream of a shopping cart isn’t so far out of reach!

Moving Out West

  • Feb. 20th, 2009 at 1:33 PM

We just moved into our home in Arizona.  Being originally form a small town in Ohio, Arizona home security was very important to both my husband and I.  The home security system in Phoenix that we got was one of the top ones that we could have gotten.  It has a lot of bells and whistles that add to the security aspect. It will go off when someone breaks in of course, but it also rings when the door opens.  We also had security cameras installed outside for the front door and the backyard.

My sister also has a home security system in Tucson.  It was ironic because we both ended up getting similar systems that did the same things.  I know that we both feel safer with the security systems in place in our houses.  It was amazing to both of us that they can make you feel safer.  Knowing that something has your back so to speak helps us sleep easier at night knowing that we will be able to know if someone breaks into our house.  The alarm function is backed up by an operations center that is staffed by people who can get the right personnel to our house in the case of an emergency.

Are You Ready for Tax Season?

  • Feb. 10th, 2009 at 2:26 PM
Unbelievable that tax season is already here, isn’t it? In fact, Tax Day is only two months away, and there is still so much to do.

For individuals, there isn’t much to do to get ready for filing your taxes. In fact, most individuals only need to provide the W-2 they receive from their employer and their previous year’s tax return.

Businesses, however, are another matter, whether you are a sole proprietor or a corporation. Basically, being a sole proprietor means that the individual is considered inseparable from the business, rather than the business being a separate entity.

If you are any kind of a business, your taxes will necessarily include business income and expenses. You may also include things like the form for business property, an expense that has to be amortized over a specified period of time. If you suspect you’ve filed this form incorrectly in previous years, you can reorganize your business property and reclaim lost expenses via a process called cost segregation. A net present value calculator will give you a pretty good idea of whether you can benefit from this process or not.

Before you can file your tax returns, you need to make sure that all kinds of things such as these are in order, so it’s best to start now. Good records, trusted professionals, and solid preparation are the cornerstone to stress free tax seasons!

Need Replacement Parts for my Cell Phone

  • Jan. 26th, 2009 at 2:35 PM

Let me start by saying that I give my cell phones a beating day in and day out. I can’t help it. It seems like I’m always dropping it or it’s getting scratched in my pocket. That’s why I don’t want to spend the money on a nice, new phone because it’d just get destroyed.

Anyway, since I use my phone so much, the battery is starting to fade out on me. It doesn’t seem to hold a charge anymore, and I’m pretty sure it’s time for new cellular phone batteries. I’ve seen some on these online auction websites, but frankly, I don’t trust buying something as sensitive as a battery from a random online auction.

I think I should also look at new cellular phone chargers while I’m at it. I always seem to lose my chargers, and I’d really like to have one for my car. After all, that’s where I spend most of my time on the phone anyway, so I might as well charge my phone while I’m in there.

Anyway, I really hope a new battery is all my old cell phone needs to be like new. I’m definitely not interested in buying a new phone, and honestly, I’ve grown attached to this phone, regardless of how outdated it is.

Window Shopping Therapy

  • Jan. 26th, 2009 at 12:52 PM
What would I ever do without my internet service?  Seriously, it keeps me alive.  Whenever I’m stressed out or having a major panic attack because Chels and Dave broke up again or Charlie is being a jerk to me (or I’m being a jerk to Charlie), I simply click, click, drool.  It’s my thing.  I love to go to Sephora and click on everything I would ever want to buy, put it all in my basket, and review it for a little while.  I imagine myself clicking “Continue to Checkout” and having no issue laying down several hundred dollars.  Then I go to Coach and pick my three fave bags for myself and my favorites for my mom and my sister (because, really, if I’m going to fantasize about blowing loads of dough, I can’t leave them out!) and do the same thing, checking out the basket but never going through with it.  It’s so naughty and delicious.  I’ve nearly signed up for satellite internet access that way, and because I have wireless internet service on my laptop, I can do it from the couch, curled in my insanely plush blanket, watching trashy TV and eating popcorn.  Doesn’t that sound relaxing?

Are Bug Deflectors Really Necessary?

  • Jan. 22nd, 2009 at 2:44 PM

Many truck, car and sport utility vehicle owners all have the same question: Are bug deflectors really necessary? Well, just like the necessity of other truck accessories, the importance of bug deflectors is a matter of opinion. So, we will tell you the benefits and you can decide for yourself.

  1. The main reason most truck owners purchase bug defectors is to protect their truck’s hood from mud, rocks, harmful road debris, gravel and, of course, nasty insects. These small, but damaging objects can dent, scratch, and just plain ruin the finish of your truck.
  2. A bug deflector, also known as a ventshade or window deflector, is an aerodynamically designed truck part. This means that this helpful truck accessory can actually help you retain control of your truck if you swerve or brake in order avoid a dangerous flying object, and keep you from crashing.
  3. They serve as a safely feature by deflecting sight-impairing bug splatter away from the windshield.
So, let’s answer the question “are bug deflectors really necessary?” Along with brush guards and mud flaps, we think absolutely! All of these kinds of accessories are stylish, practical, cost effective and functional.  But it is your truck; your decision.

How Do Big Cities Do It?

  • Jan. 22nd, 2009 at 2:07 PM

It always amazes me how big cities can keep traffic flowing at a decent pace when there is so much construction going on.  It seems that where I live here in Colorado, streets seem to be under construction all the time.  I don't know if they're expanding for the incoming population or if it's freeze damage.  All I know is that there seems to be temporary fencing everywhere to keep people out of the way, and more than one temporary fence on every corner of my daily commute.

What's even more amazing is how, amongst all of this construction, they pretty effectively pulled off some respectable crowd control recently when we had some dignitaries in town.  Personally, I just don't think I could ever pull off that kind of event coordination; especially when it's surrounded by construction day and night!  But somehow they did it and by Monday, my commute was back to normal.  Not bad….

Create A Sense of Security In The Workplace

  • Dec. 16th, 2008 at 11:32 AM

Not in the physical sense will you be creating this, but in the mental sense. This is if you go and do employment screening on prospective employees to make it an easier decision on the possible employee that you may be hiring. Consider how much time and effort will be saved if you screen all prospective employees and are able to weed out the ones who will not be able to make the grade for you, or those that pose a potential threat to your company based on the criminal records check that you decided to perform on them. Look at all of the information that is available for you to look at and then determine what type of check you will want to perform on them based on your company as well as the position to which you would be placing them in.

A background check can really only be a good thing, that is of course if it used properly. It is not something that should be used as a bargaining chip as well as a way to blackmail potential employees. Think how you would feel if it were one of them looking into what you had done in the past and then maybe you will understand what they are going through when you do a check.

My cousin owns a landscaping business.  Because his passion is on plants and the arts, his business is just like doing his hobby.  And boy he does earn big bucks from this.

He did invest though in a screening machine but his returns had been multiplied greatly.

His screening machine has different kinds of screen.  His can easily change to compost screen so he can easily gather nutrient rich materials.

He has topsoil screens in store too.  I learned from him that top soil could be easily lost and should be carefully gathered because they contain a lot of nutrients needed for plants to grow well.

He also has rock screens that will separate the rocks from the soil.  The rocks that are collected are then used for other purposes like a Zen garden.

My cousin’s house itself is located in a nice big lawn full of plants and flowers.  I sometimes envy him because his job brings him money, fun and beauty.

He once told me that when I finish my architecture degree and become a full pledged architect, we should become partners.  Well, who could refuse such an offer? We can learn from each other and make beautiful estates everywhere!

Where is the business world headed?

  • Dec. 9th, 2008 at 2:52 PM

If you have been paying attention any over the last couple of years, then you have obviously noticed some new trends. The business world is obviously going through a major transition period and a lot of people are fearful over where it might end up. What is going to happen? How am I going to keep up? Is there any way to get the technology to play big boy ball? The truth of the matter is that inventory control software and time and attendance systems have completely revolutionized the way we do business.

Things like this have come along and just helped business people become more organized and more productive. One of the biggest struggles for new business owners is in trying to keep all of their ducks in a row. They lose track of some of the numbers and then things get all out of whack. This costs them money over the long haul. The business world is shifting, though. None of these things are going to be a problem for the guy with the good technology. Even barcode scanners are something of a modern marvel, as they have made checking people out a breeze when it used to be a hassle.

The business world is seeing a change occur. You need to get with it or you won’t have a chance.

Nov. 19th, 2008

I went to the Home Depot today to get a new ceiling fan. And when I was leaving, the cashier pointed out that on the bottom of my receipt was a customer service survey that if I got online and took I could win a bunch of money. So when I got home I did get on line, go to the website and I promptly filled out the customer survey. Of course nobody probably really wins these things, but who knows? I guess it would be false advertising if nobody won, so maybe somebody actually will.

Anyway, as I was finishing up this customer satisfaction survey in dawns on me that this is more than just an innocent little survey that they have put together to see how they are doing. They have me locked into an advertisement!

That’s right! All along their questions have been asking me things like if I was aware that Home Depot has their own credit card which could save me money. As I’m checking the box to tell them that I was not aware of their credit card, they just made me aware of it! Those sneaky little devils just about squeaked that one right by me. So be aware the next time you fill one of these out that it might actually be a sales pitch.

You Can Optimize Your Site – But Do You Need to?

Many people wonder whether or not it is necessary to optimize their websites.  While I have experienced a number of benefits through my Florida internet marketing and Tampa SEO assistance firms, not all website owners have to get this in depth with their optimization work.

In most instances, individuals transfer or establish their business on the World Wide Web in order to expand their audience.  Even if you want to sell to a particular area, as I choose to limit my sales to Florida and Tampa, in particular, the Internet is one of the busiest and most productive areas of our world.  As a result, you can get the concept of your business out to individuals in your area who still may not have heard about your business through print or other forms of advertisements.

Website owners don’t need to optimize their sites in excessive manners, but it is almost always beneficial to simply optimize your website.  Typically, this means using simple keyword phrases that are popular and relevant.  It may not be as important for smaller companies to use a Tampa website design firm or chosen SEO assistance company, but small steps should be taken to ensure that the site does live up to its optimization potential.

While you may know that in order to process transactions for your online business it can be helpful to have ecommerce shopping cart software, you may not know how to find such a product or what questions to ask providers.  Purchasing a storefront software product is an important decision, so prepare yourself and do the necessary research in a timely manner.  This will help ensure that you are making a cost effective and suitable investment in your company.

Is there a guarantee from your perspective suppliers?  In order to be sure that a shopping cart will work for you, you may have to use it and try it out!  Find out which suppliers offer guarantees and trial periods and what the specifics of those offers are when it comes to your shopping cart options.  Inquire as to how potential shoppers will find your website.  Some will utilize Search Engine Optimization capabilities and these are often the most beneficial for ecommerce business owners because of their ability to potentially encourage new business.  Lastly, inquire as to what kind of customer service you can expect from the provider.  Like any consumer, you want to know that you can rely on the company from whom you purchase your items.  If you need help, make sure they are willing to provide it in a way that will satisfy your needs.

Doing Business With Turned components

  • Oct. 20th, 2008 at 2:09 PM

Turned components are everywhere.  They can be found from tiny screws on computers and other digital equipment to large rods in oil and drilling machineries.

Turned parts makers are lucky these days because of technological advancements that make mass production very quick.

Turned parts are products from raw bar materials. As the name turned part implies, these bar materials are turned and shaped to produce their desired functions.

No one can dispute the fact that turned parts are ubiquitous.  As such they are made in bulk from thousands to millions.  Of course it would be foolish to make these things by hand.

Companies use a screw machine to make turned parts such as screws.  In most cases, the production is automated with just one person operating the machine.  Multi spindle screw machines are a variety which is widely used now wherein one machine can simultaneously produce several products depending on the number of spindles.

These machines are built to last but some companies give a certain life time to a machine.  So, smaller manufacturers of turned parts are not finding it difficult to find used screw machines which sell at a much lesser price.

For wholesalers of turned parts, it is advised that they order in advance and in bulk to reduce on cost.  The demand for turned parts will never decline even amidst trouble economic times.
